The city of Saint-Hyacinthe became one of the many users of the Geomap’s SIGim suite and will improve its technological process by replacing its current GIS system. The city will be equipped with a GIS solution that follows the market’s trends in order to optimize geospatial data publishing, add functionalities to manage its infrastructure networks and offer a wide variety of management tools to its Services, such as urban planning and public works.


The city wants its geospatial information system to become a help tool in the decision making process and to be available to the municipal services, the elected officials and citizens. A little over two decades ago, the city of Saint-Hyacinthe implemented a GIS system and ever since, has been gathering territorial data. The conversion and the migration of this data is a real challenge. The city decided to opt for new technology in the for many reasons such as wanting to insure continuous progress for its internal processes, increase the ability to manage multiple data format, add flexibility to the current system and to favor data interoperability. After properly analyzing the available options, the city chose Geomap’s SIGim suite. This option is based on Autodesk’s AutoCAD Map 3D and MapGuide Open Source geospatial platforms. The city has also chosen to use Microsoft’s SQL server as a database. The city is the first in the province of Quebec to use SQL Server’s spatial cartridge to store geometry in a database.

The responsible for GIS at the city of St-Hyacinthe, M. Donald Corriveau, is delighted by this technological investment and this new step in the development of the geospatial system: «The improvement of the geospatial system will benefit our municipal services (public transport, urban planning, engineering, fire department and many more). I am convinced that the suggested changes will result in noticeable improvements for the city».
