The SIGAT Geo portal was initially launched in 2003 but did not meet the expectations of Ministries, Municipalities and other users anymore. The usage of Geographical Information Systems is now widely spread in municipal organization, however for this project multiple users with different needs have been taken into account: cities, municipalities, CRE, etc. These users were requesting a single application granting them access and viewing capabilities of geographical information coming from various organization or ministries, with the ability to download this information. To reach this target, the MAMROT had then decided to rebuild the existing application to create the “New SIGAT Géo portal”. This new solution based on the GoMap technology from Geomap GIS America, FME from Safe Software, Oracle and some Open Source components allows the users, since fall of 2009, to easily navigate through thematic maps, do queries, print or visualize aerial photography. With the advanced map navigator now available, users, in their own secure online session are able to build their own thematic maps by using the available data in SIGAT. Users can also combine data from SIGAT with their organization’s data through OGC web services.
The security of the application was one of the major challenges. Access management is fully integrated and is applicable on the data, browsers, searches, etc.
